If you’ve never had one in place before, you’re a new manager, or you aren’t exactly sure what your employees need in a program, it can be intimidating to get started.

Fortunately, corporate wellness companies exist to help you plan and implement the best strategies for your workplace. Because wellness is an ongoing process, you want to find a great wellness company that will help you do what’s best for you and your employees.

To help you choose the right one to work with, here are the top five questions to consider.

1. Are their wellness consultants educated?

Don’t be afraid to ask about the qualifications of a wellness company’s staff. Ask about who you’d be working with and what education and training they’ve completed—including any relevant certifications. You may also want to ask about continuous education and training, as you want to work with a wellness company that is always staying up to date on the latest techniques and trends in wellness and ergonomics. The wellness and ergonomics fields change all the time, and you want to work with people who enjoy learning and getting better at what they do.

2. How much experience does the corporate wellness company have?

A corporate wellness company should be able to provide you with previous success stories and/or a list of clients they’ve worked with. You can get a feel for what they could accomplish at your workplace by looking at what they’ve done in the past. Another important thing to consider is the sizes of companies they’ve worked with before. A company with 50 employees will need a completely different approach to corporate wellness than one with 1,000 employees.

3. Are their team members passionate about what they do?

When talking to someone from a corporate wellness company, can you tell that they love what they do, or do they seem somewhat disinterested? Your company will have the most success when you work with someone who will bring their passion for what they do into your workplace. Great questions to ask during this process are:

  • “What do you love about what you do?” or
  • “Why do you do what you do?”

4. Do they cater their solutions to each client they work with?

When it comes to something as important as health and wellness, no one deserves a one-size-fits-all approach. Your company, employees, and wellness goals are unique to you—and your corporate wellness company should be able to develop a plan that meets all of your needs.  

5. How are their communication skills?

In the first interaction or two with a corporate wellness company, you’ll want to pay attention to their communication skills—as they’ll need to be able to communicate well with you and your whole team. Are they easily accessible? Do they answer your questions adequately? Are they friendly? You’ll want to build a relationship with your corporate wellness coach, and these qualities can help you determine how easy that will be.
