How to Relieve Lower Back Pain?

Relieving Lower Back Pain

Pain in the lower back is one of the most common causes of job-related disability. It is typically the result of skeletal irregularities, injuries, degenerative issues, nerve problems, and more. Those who perform job responsibilities from a desk are likely to experience back pain due to improper posture and sitting in one position for too long. Learn about how to relieve lower back pain while at work with the experts at E3 Consulting.

Workstation Posture

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has estimated that the average American works 8.8 hours every day. With much of an individual’s day spent in a workspace, it is important to practice proper posture to relieve as well as avoid lower back pain. With an ergonomic workstation, posture can be improved by implementing ergonomic chairs, sit-stand desks, ergonomic keyboards, and more. Employees should be educated on the setup of equipment as well as sitting posture. Computer monitors should be placed within eye level of the employee and two feet away at a tilt. Ergonomic chairs have been designed to ensure people sit correctly and properly. An individual’s back should be positioned straight in the chair with their shoulders back, knees in line with their hips, and feet on the floor. Lastly, a keyboard and a mouse should be placed in front of them.

Take Breaks

Give your back and yourself a break! If possible, alternate between standing and sitting to avoid prolonged sitting. Throughout the work day be sure to go for a walk and loosen up your muscles to mitigate pain and discomfort.

Exercise

Exercising is a great way to help relieve lower back pain. Some exercises include hamstring stretches, bird dog, wall sits, glute bridges, and swimming. Depending on if you are suffering from acute or chronic back pain, it is important to consult your doctor first to determine what exercises are best for your condition.

Visit a Doctor

If your pain continues to worsen, scheduling an appointment with a doctor is essential. They can help diagnose your issue, offer you the best treatment option, and share helpful tips on how to alleviate pain.
