Easy Ways To Improve Computer Ergonomics

Control Your Computer Ergonomics

More people are working at desks and with computers than ever before. They have to sit for long hours to get their work done, which can lead to a number of pains and issues. In order to create a safe, healthy work environment that is also productive, proper computer ergonomics are important. Employees often have to work with what the company provides, whatever that may be. Having all the proper equipment for computer ergonomics is nice, but many have to work with what’s in front of them. Use these easy ways to improve your computer ergonomics with whatever you have available.

Way 1: Watch Your Posture

Whether you have the exact right chair or not, you can probably do better about your posture. You need to sit with your hands, wrists, and forearms in a straight line. Keep your feet flat on the floor as well and sit as straight up as you can. It’s okay to lean back a little, but don’t hunch your shoulders over. Keep them back and relaxed so they don’t get tense from the extra pressure.

Way 2: Adjust Your Chair And Desk

It’s not always possible to adjust a desk, but many chairs are adjustable. The more you can customize your chair to suit your body and work needs, the better off you will be. Ergonomics are not a one-size-fits all detail. If you don’t already have a good chair, try to get one that can accommodate lots of positions and adjustments so you can do what you need with it.

Way 3: Display Heights And Distances

Monitors needs to be placed at eye level so you can use it without looking down and straining your neck. You shouldn’t have to squint to see the screen, but you don’t want it too close either. Prop your monitor up higher if it is too low. You also want to watch where you put the keyboard and mouse. You don’t want to have to reach out too far to get to them, but you don’t want your elbows too close to your body, either.

Way 4: Move Around

When you have a lot of work to do, it can be hard to convince yourself to get up and take a break, but standing up and moving around can work wonders for your ergonomics. Everyone needs a break and when you sit back down, you can reposition yourself in the proper ergonomic sitting position.

Way 5: Get Professional Help

There are professionals who can come into your business and give you the proper computer ergonomics. After assessing your needs and training you and other employees how to have the right ergonomics, the office place can be a safe, healthy environment for ergonomics on a regular basis.
