3 Ways to Improve Your Work Environment

Improving Your Work Environment Makes for Happy Employees

Improve Your Work Environment with Healthy Snacks for Employees

If you have people working for you, you have to realize that what they’re dedicating their lives to getting your dreams off of the ground. Granted, they are getting paid for this, but what may even be more important to them is the quality of life that you provide for them during work hours. Not many places have amazing work environments, but it may be one of the single best factors that contributes to employee retention and health. During the economic depression that we’ve experienced, businesses are footing the health insurance bill more, meaning that in order to keep your health costs down, it’s in your best interest to make sure that your employees stay healthy. Here are three ways that you can make your office more ergonomical.

1. Having Snacks Available

Sometimes your workers need to have a little pick me up in the middle of the day that goes beyond the coffee. Having snacks in your office makes for a more productive work environment that also makes employees happier. Have them take a survey on which healthy snacks they’d like to have in the office and then stock them regularly. This will increase worker happiness and productivity, while also improving health, eventually leading to decreased health insurance costs.

2. Making Your Office Ergonomically Friendly

The comfort of your employees is going to contribute greatly to their overall productivity. An ounce of discomfort is going to take much of the focus that your employee has away from the task at hand and breed resentment for the working conditions. By making sure that your employees are as comfortable as possible, you’re also making sure that they’re going to be as happy as possible, leading to great retention rates and more overall productivity. You can accomplish this by hiring ergonomics consultants to evaluate and change your working environment to be better suited for your employees.

3. Add in Recreation

Does your office need table tennis, or perhaps a shuffleboard table to give employees something to do during their lunch break? Recreational games are constant team building exercises that will help your employees grow together as a team. Not only that, but the competition that it breeds will make employees look forward to work every day, or even better, stay late after work to play for even longer. Having a workplace where your employees are constantly interacting keeps their minds on two things: work and building the relationships that make up your team.

Work Environment Matters More Than You Think

Most employees agree that a great work environment is essential to having a happy, fulfilling career in your place of work. It’s your job to make sure that you have healthy, happy employees that you can retain. That’s why you should always have snacks available, make your office ergonomically friendly so everyone is comfortable, and add in just a touch of recreation to help with the team building process. All of this together is the recipe for a  happy and successful workforce that spends less time worrying about their livelihood and more time getting the tasks you need done.
